World Youth Cup - Day 1

What we have learned about Gothia on day 1

That waking up at 0300 is similar to having had a severe knock to the head, and it makes your eyes sting.

Gothia - Day 1

A number of boys headed to Sweden this morning to represent the Disitrct in the World Youth Cup ion Sweden.  38 boys have made the trip to Gothenburg which will see them play two friendly games tomorrow ahead of the start of the tournament on Monday.

The opening ceremony will also take place on Monday.

The boys congregated at 0600 at LHR before taking a British Airways flight to Gothenburg.  Friday's objectives: acclimatisation and planning.

Azzurri almost there

Gli Azzurri have been grafting in impressive fashion recently and have almost reached their target to get themselves to Italy.

Activities have included car boot sales, quizzes, bag packs and sponsored bike rides jsut to mention a few.  Here George and Will were up at the crack of dawn in Frome last Sunday.

Waiting almost over

The wait for the World Youth Cup in Sweden is almost over.  36,000 players will descend upon Gothenburg from 65 different countries next week.

BWB will be sending 4 teams to compete in the B11, B12 and B13 age groups when they fly to Sweden from London on Friday.

Tesco's haul

Well done to all the smurfs and parents who attended the event at Shepton Mallet the other day.

Being Glastonbury weekend there were many interesting sights (and smells) and everyone did a fantastic job of collecting for the funds.  The final count has not yet been made, but manyn thanks to all involved.  You did a stirling job!!!

Stuttgart - Day 4

Stuttgart - Day 3

What a shame we had to rush breakfast.  Sam had thought he was dreaming, and was then heartbroken when he was told he only had 10 minutes to indulge himself in breakfast heaven.  Pancakes, bacon, eggs, fresh juice, honey from the beehive, fruit salad, you name it, it was there.  Ryan was ok though he got up at 0630 before anyone else just to get his money’s worth in a 1.5 hour eating frenzy.

Stuttgart - Day 2

0500 wake up call.  With an allocation of just 2 smurfs per adult, Mrs Porton was asked to wield her charm on the bus driver to explore the possibility of more than 2 Smurf boarding the hopper to the airport from the ‘Lodge’.  Unfortunately, the driver was either a non-English speaker, or Mrs Porton’s alluring offensive hit a new low as she was rebuffed swiftly.

Stuttgart - Day 1

The long awaited venture to the Vaterland to participate in the Scharr Nations Cup is upon us at last.  13 are to represent BWB against teams from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Lithuania, France and Italy in a tournament that boasts the likes of Bayern Munich, Fiorentina and Borussia Dortmund; a tall order but one which offers a unique myriad of experiences.  Indeed, they are unlikely to comprehend the fertility of this opportunity for years to come.

Prep for internationals begins

The BWBs involved with international tournament duty over the next few weeks made strides with their preparation this weekend as they entered the Westbury 6-a-sides in mixed age grups.
